Director, Camirus Ltd

Matthew is the Managing Director of Camirus and also leads the Black Country Industrial Cluster, which is a partnership of Black Country industrial companies and universities. Since 2017, he’s held a variety of voluntary roles in regional economic development including as a Board member of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP (2016-20); a board member of WM5G and of the West Midlands Energy and Environment and innovation Boards. He has strong relationships across the West Midlands industrial and academic sectors, and he’s recently agreed to chair the clean tech arm of the new West Midlands Innovation Accelerator.

Matthew’s career spans energy, manufacturing and management consultancy. For the first half of his career he worked internationally for global businesses including Unilever, BP, PA Consulting Group and RWE. In 2003 he founded a software start-up which he developed over 14 years into an engineering and building physics consultancy specialising in low carbon innovation. Employing 25 people and operating internationally, his company supported over £3bn of capital projects at the leading edge of the energy system transition, particularly in housing and community contexts. Matthew sold this business in 2017.
