Jo Lewington

Chief Environment & Sustainability Officer, Network Rail

Jo Lewington is the Chief Environment & Sustainability Officer at Network Rail based at the company’s national headquarters in Milton Keynes. Jo is responsible for leading the business on its commitment to provide the cleanest, greenest form of mass transport in the UK. Jo also sits on the Advisory Board of the National Railway Museum, supporting the museum with its exciting plans for the future. She is a member of the My Milton Keynes Business Improvement District (BID) Board and is supporting the work of the BID making Milton Keynes an amazing place to work.

Jo has a diverse breadth of experience both within the rail industry and in the commercial property sector. A Chartered Surveyor with 27 years professional experience, Jo has a solid understanding of the land and property industry. She has spent her career working within the private practice property sector and also within the property sector of the rail industry before moving into the Technical Authority in Network Rail to lead on the delivery of the organisation’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy, published in September 2020.

Jo is passionate about the positive sustainability impact that the rail industry can bring to the communities it serves and the wider economy and is an advocate of embedding sustainability throughout the organisation as it prepares the railway infrastructure to achieve net zero carbon emissions and minimise the impacts of climate change by 2050.
