David Aitken

Director of Innovation, Carbon Trust
David has over 15 years' experience of accelerating climate tech innovation in the UK and Europe and across Africa, Asia and Latin America. He is an expert advisor to governments, industry, new ventures and impact investors on developing solutions that drive decarbonisation at speed and scale to address the climate crisis. David leads the Carbon Trust's innovation work including directing acceleration support to one of the largest portfolios of climate tech ventures in the world (more than 200 ventures and growing fast) and overseeing large scale sector transformation initiatives ranging from clean energy access and sustainable cooling to industrial decarbonisation and agriculture and food systems. Before joining the Carbon Trust in 2010, David worked in a start-up venture developing low carbon projects with a focus on developing countries (CarbonAided). He has advised on sustainable land use initiatives in Ghana (Katoomba Incubator) and New Zealand (Craigmore Sustainables) and managed commercial and legal risks on large infrastructure projects for an Asia Pacific engineering consultancy (BECA). David holds an MSc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford (Distinction) and First Class Degrees in Law and Political Science from the University of Canterbury.
