Sustainability Focus - What do people in the UK think and feel about Climate Tech

Recent research into public perceptions of technology for environmental sustainability have been published, assessing the general public’s opinions on technology for environmental sustainability. 

Bosch’s survey polled 1,000 people in the UK, and 11,000 people globally, across France, Germany, Brazil, China, and the US.  

Here are the key findings from the UK respondents: 

  • 80% of people globally believe that technology will play a key role in combatting the climate crisis.
     

  • Only 41% of Brits believe that tech currently addresses the world's biggest problems, compared with a global average of 52%.
     

  • 51% in the UK believe that controversial climate engineering technologies can make a positive contribution to society.
     

  • Over 53% of Brits believe that their country is a green technology leaders (A lower proportion compared with the US, India and China).
     

  • 44% of Brits do not believe that UK policymakers and industry sufficiently support the development and growth of sustainable technologies.
     

  • 3 in 4 Brits believe that the UK is well-equipped to deal with accelerating technological change.
     

  • 8 in 10 Brits believe that companies focusing on sustainable technologies will benefit from greater economic success in the future.  
     

  • 2/3 of Brits picked 'Wind' when asked which energy innovation area they'd like to see the Government support (the least popular option was biomass).
