Innovation Zero 2024 Main Stage

19 Feb 2023

An Interview with Biohm Founder and Director of Innovation, Dr Ehab Sayed

As we count down to the "Innovation in Materials" showcase at Innovation Zero's Built Environment Forum, May 24th, Biohm's Founder and Director of Innovation, Dr Ehab Sayed, kindly shared his thoughts about the state of the net zero transition today.

In your work, what is the central challenge you see to a rapid acceleration of the net zero transition?

"The central challenge for Biohm, is to demonstrate to global companies, those who have the greatest impact on the planet and the potential to make the greatest changes, that it is indeed possible to shift away from the comfort of traditional materials and products, and towards more regenerative ones, for a better future without compromising performance or profits."

How are you working to tackle this challenge?

"We use biomimetics (taking inspiration from nature) to develop new ground-breaking and unique biotechnologies and products to help companies decarbonise their operations and move towards a more regenerative future. The systemic nature-inspired approach, enables us to create products that compete with market-leading, but harmful, synthetic alternatives and produce them in a highly scalable, economically efficient, and socio-environmentally regenerative manner."

"...it is indeed possible to shift away from the comfort of traditional materials and products, and towards more regenerative ones, for a better future without compromising performance or profits..."

With whom do you want to connect to help enable the above?

"We are looking to work with major multinationals and global manufacturers, who are in search of regenerative solutions to help them reach, if not exceed, their net zero targets. Through our excellent R&D team and facilities we are able to develop and apply biotechnologies to solve complex problems in industry. We currently work with world-leading organisations from a wide range of industries including pharmaceutical, construction, interior design and more."
