Financing the Transition to a Sustainable Blue Economy

30 Apr 2025
Nature, Land & Sea Forum
Finance

The blue economy, encompassing sectors such as shipping, fishing and aquaculture, tourism and energy, has an estimated value of over $2.5 trillion annually, placing it on par with the world’s eighth-largest economy. However, climate change, pollution and environmental degradation are driving a rapid deterioration in our ocean’s health, jeopardising the future prosperity of the industries, businesses and communities that depend on it.

Our opening panel will explore the key role financial actors, including banks, insurers and investors, have to play in financing the transition to a sustainable blue economy. How can financial institutions pivot their investments towards economic activities that support ocean prosperity and restore ocean biodiversity?
