How much heat is escaping up your chimney??
Having an open chimney is like leaving a window open all the time. Chimneys are designed to draw air out of a building. They syphon air out of a property continuously, whether the fire is lit or not. 80 cubic metres of air flow up a chimney per hour. This pulls cold air in through leaky parts of the building.
A Chimney Sheep® plugs the chimney just above the fireplace (when the fire isn’t lit). It blocks off the airflow, retaining heat and cutting out the cold draughts. It saves 250kg of carbon dioxide per chimney per year.
There are 12 million homes in the UK with open chimneys. If every one of them was fitted with a Chimney Sheep® we would save 3 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.
We look for big sexy clever gadget fixes for Net Zero. It’s the cumulative smaller saves that will get us there.
