Carbon offsetting project | Bokhol Senegal Solar
In Senegal, 43% of the population lives in energy poverty and fossil fuels account for approximately 80% of the energy mix.
Our Bokhol Senegal Solar project is one of the first #solar #photovoltaic (PV) #projects in Senegal and one of the largest in West Africa, providing 160,000 people with access to #renewableelectricity and avoiding around 27,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
The plant covers 50 hectares and is equipped with 77,000 modules that are connected to the national grid. It also delivers multiple benefits to the communities in which it operates, including hiring 150 people for the construction phase and 25 permanent technicians. Two schools and a youth training programme were also set up, and through the pandemic the project donated food to support the population of the Bokhol Municipality.
