Blue carbon mangrove restoration | Semilla Azul | EcoAct project development | Mexico

Semilla Azul is a blue carbon project that promotes mangrove habitat restoration and afforestation throughout the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. EcoAct is proud to partner with Resiliencia Azul, a Mexican, women-led NGO, on this project that aims to enable the area to better adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change through mangrove restoration.

Mangroves store up to 10 times more carbon than terrestrial forests and Mexico has the fourth largest area of mangroves in the world. Semilla Azul aims to restore 5,000 hectares of mangroves with the potential to remove up to 4 million tCO2e.

This restoration project adopts a holistic approach by involving local communities who are the owners of the project, working on restoring the mangroves and are supported through the creation of sustainable livelihoods to ensure the natural regeneration and protection of mangroves in the long-term. If you are interested in getting involved and additional information, don’t hesitate to contact us.
